IRSO Launches 104 Satellites From a Single Rocket

Last week the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) put a record 104 satellites into orbit with a single launch, and now it’s preparing to launch Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III (GSLV Mark-III) in a few months. 

India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, in its thirty-ninth flight (PSLV-C37), launched the 714 kilogram Cartosat-2 series satellite for earth observation and 103 co-passenger satellites together weighing about 663 kilograms at lift-off into a 505-kilometer polar Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO).

President Trump Leaning Toward Air Traffic Privatization

Proponents of privatizing the U.S. air traffic control system have an apparently sympathetic ear in the White House as they renew their fight to wrest air operations from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

President Trump criticized the FAA’s handling of air traffic control (ATC) modernization, pointing out the ongoing issues with NextGen during a February 9 meeting with airline executives.

Bad Clocks, Brexit and More Happenings at the European Space Policy Conference

Speakers at last month’s 9th Annual Conference on European Space Policy in Brussels wasted no time in addressing the somewhat worrying failure of a number of Galileo onboard clocks, as revealed by European Space Agency Director General Johan-Dietrich Woerner at a press briefing earlier in January in Paris. He made clear at the time that the clock failures, while indeed troubling, had had no effect on the operational integrity of the Galileo system.

Emlid, based in Hong Kong, has introduced the Reach RS, a rugged, battery-powered real-time kinematic (RTK) GNSS receiver. The Reach RS enables centimeter-accurate positioning for survey, mapping, agriculture and drones, and is designed to provide an economical solution, according to the company.
