Septentrio Absorbs Altus Positioning

Belgian GNSS manufacturer Septentrio Satellite Navigation, of Leuven, Belgium, has announced the completion of the acquisition and integration of Altus Positioning Systems, based in Torrance, California.
 
Septentrio Satellite Navigation and Altus-PS started working together in 2007. The collaboration between the two companies has already resulted in a series of such surveying and GIS-focused products as the APS-NR2, APS-3, APS-U, and APS-GeoPod. The smart antenna form factors will form a separate product line in the Septentrio product portfolio.

Forsberg Services Ltd. has announced its recent acquisition of the StarLink product line from Raven Industries. StarLink products include inline amplifiers, coaxial down/up converters and fiber-optic link systems to enable and support extended cable runs for GNSS in navigation and time synchronization applications.

Russian Certification Center Chooses R&S Solution for ERA-GLONASS Emergency Call System Testing

Rohde & Schwarz CMW ERA-Glonass eCall test setup

Munich, Germany–based Rohde & Schwarz has announced that the Certification Center Svyaz-Certificate in Russia is now using the R&S CMW500 to certify ERA-GLONASS systems in line with the technical regulation On Safety of Wheeled Vehicles (TR CU 018/2011), a standard adopted by the customs union of Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus.

LocataNet-based White Sands High-Accuracy Reference System Nears Full Operation

The LocataNet installation at White Sands Missile Range (WSMR), New Mexico, has completed its final system verification testing and is on schedule to become a fully operational capability in January 2015.

The network serves as the Non-GPS Based Positioning System (NGBPS) subsystem for the Ultra High Accuracy Reference System operated by the Central Inertial and GPS Test Facility (CIGFT) at WSMR. An article in the May/June 2012 issue of Inside GNSS describes the design and testing of the system.

Canadian Army to Test NovAtel’s GAJT GPS Anti-Jam Antenna

NovAtel GAJT GPS anti-jam antenna system

NovAtel has announced that Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) has selected the company’s GAJT-700ML antenna, a single-unit GPS anti-jam antenna system, for testing on Canadian Army armored vehicles. The testing is being conducted through PWGSC’s Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP).

NovAtel Supplies Reference Receivers for IRNSS Ground Segment

NovAtel Inc., has announced an agreement with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to supply reference receiver products for use in the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) ground segment.

India-based Elcome Technologies Pvt. Limited, a sister company to NovAtel in the Hexagon Group of Companies, will provide local integration, training and technical support services for the NovAtel receivers.

NovAtel Garners FAA Contract for 3rd-Generation WAAS Receiver

NovAtel G-III WAAS Reference Receiver

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has contracted with NovAtel Inc. to produce and deliver 176 Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) third-generation reference receivers (G-III).

The contract also includes engineering support for the G-III receiver as well as the current generation reference receiver (G-II), Geostationary Earth Orbit Uplink Subsystem – Type 1 (GUST) receiver, and Signal Generator (SIGGEN).

GNSS Applications Ideas Contest Extends Deadline to July 7

The 2013 European Satellite Navigation Competition (ESNC) is about to close to new submissions of GNSS application ideas, but organizers have decided to extend the deadline until midnight on Sunday, July 7.

The ESNC prize pool is worth about €1 million, which includes cash prizes, business incubation, coaching, patent consulting, prototyping and marketing support, access to customers and user communities, and publicity.

Acquisition of ST-Ericsson GNSS Portfolio Would Strengthen Intel’s Location Capabilities

Assuming that its deal to acquire ST-Ericsson’s GNSS business closes in August as expected, Intel Corporation will find itself with expanded opportunities — and competitive set — in the mobile location marketplace.

Over the years, Intel has dominated the now-mature, even declining personal computer and server markets, but has found the rapidly growing mobile device environment — including smartphones and tablets —tougher going. Its Atom processor reportedly resides in only 12 percent of the former and 15 percent of the latter.
