Wikimedia Commons photo by grendelkhan.Low-cost, precision, GNSS receivers will become a reality in the driverless cars, drones, and smartphone markets by 2021, said ABI Research in two new reports, “Precision GNSS in Automotive” and “GNSS IC Design Trends: Modules, Standalone, Combo, and Embedded.”
The automotive industry will be the main driver behind precision GNSS receiver adoption, in which centimeter-level accuracy is essential to complete driver safety systems with the redundancy necessary for autonomous vehicles, the company said.

u-blox has released a firmware upgrade for its NEO-M8P that now supports China’s BeiDou GNSS system in addition to GPS and GLONASS.
Capable of real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning, the new NEO-M8P firmware now offers eight-hertz RTK update rates for GPS.
The results from the GPS receiver testing sponsored by would-be wireless broadband provider Ligado are in. A review of the nearly 600 pages of data and analysis suggests that a number of GPS receivers can — by the firm’s chosen, but somewhat controversial technical standard — operate in the presence of the company’s proposed wireless signals.

Trimble MB-Two moduleTrimble has introduced its dual-antenna MB-Two GNSS module, which delivers GNSS-based heading plus pitch or roll in an industry-standard form factor for system integrators.
According to Trimble, the module’s embedded Z-Blade GNSS technology uses all available dual-frequency GNSS signals equally, without any constellation preference, to deliver fast and stable centimeter-accurate position and heading information.
