ESA Report: Galileo IOV Transmitting on all 3 Frequencies

The European Space Agency (ESA) has reported its first successful reception of triple-frequency signals from a Galileo in-orbit validation (IOV) spacecraft.

The weekend of December 17 all Galileo signals were activated simultaneously for the first time across the European GNSS system’s three spectral bands, known as E1 (1559–1592 MHz), E5 (1164–1215 MHz), and E6 (1.215–1.300 MHz). The accompanying graphic displays the signals spectral profile.

Interstate Launches First Common GPS Module–Based Receiver

L-3 Interstate Electronics Corporation (IEC) unveiled its next generation, military GPS receiver — incorporating a Common GPS Module (CGM) — at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) 2011 Annual Meeting and Exposition currently under way in Washington, D.C.

The company’s first CGM product processes precise code (P-code), coarse/acquisition code (C/A) code, and the modernized military M-code signals. In addition, the new design provides a common security architecture including improved anti-jam and anti-spoof capabilities.

EC Official Adds Galileo, EGNOS Worries to FCC’s LightSquared-GPS Deliberations

Citing European Space Agency (ESA) studies that showed “harmful interference” to Galileo receivers operating up to 1,000 kilometers from LightSquared base stations, a European Commission (EC) official has told the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) about his “deep concerns” about the wireless broadband company’s terrestrial transmissions in the 1525–1559 MHz band next to L1 GNSS frequencies.
