2012 European Navigation Conference to Take Place in Poland

In 2012, for the first time, the annual European Navigation Conference will take place in Gdańsk, Poland.

It will be held at April 25-27 in the Filharmonia convention hall on Olowianka Island. It is at the center of the one of the oldest Baltic cities, near many of the historical attractions of Gdańsk (Danzig).

The theme is "Navigation for the People." The conference will be held in English.

The event will also feature a technical exhbition for companies, institutes and others to demonstrate their products.

New Advanced Receiver Course Featured in NavtechGPS July Seminar

The GNSS signal spectrum in neon

NavtechGPS, the Washington D.C.-based GNSS technology trainers, will introduce a new advanced receiver course for engineers and designers in their summer seminar series at the Doubletree Hotel in Annapolis, Maryland next July 11-15.

The course is called "Using Advanced GPS/GNSS Signals and Systems." Signal and receiver design expert John Betz, MITRE Corporation, and James Sennott, president of Tracking and Imaging Systems, Inc will teach it.

Trimble Announces Plans to Buy Ashtech

Continuing a series of acquisitions in recent years, Trimble announced today (April 19, 2011) that the Sunnyvale, California–based company has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire privately held Ashtech S.A.S.

In announcing the its plans, Trimble said that it expects the acquisition of the Carquefou, France, company and its affiliates will expand the U.S. company’s Spectra Precision portfolio of survey solutions and allow the company to better address emerging markets worldwide.

Keeping the Spoofs Out

The demand for techniques capable of authenticating the GNSS signals and detecting simulation attacks (spoofing) has increased exponentially in the last years, mainly targeted to financial and safety critical applications.

Associated proposals and developments addressing these issues focused on two different approaches: user segment authentication services that leveraged existing services in order to detect signal spoofing and that integrated signal authentication services into the GNSS system itself.

NavCom Introduces Multi-GNSS SF-3040 Receiver

NavCom Technology’s SF-3040 Receiver

NavCom Technology, Inc., has launched its 66-channel, SF-3040 pole-mount receiver, featuring StarFire/real-time kinematic (RTK) multi-GNSS capabilities and optimized for surveying and mapping applications.

NavCom says its new product provides real-time kinematic (RTK)–level accuracy up to 40 kilometers away from the base station or decimeter-level accuracy anywhere in the world when using the company’s StarFire global satellite-based augmentation system (GSBAS).

NovAtel Announces FlexPak6 Enclosure Featuring OEM6 GNSS Technology

NovAtel Inc. has announced the launch of  its FlexPak6 GNSS enclosure, the first product to house the company’s new OEM628 multi-constellation receiver.

According to the Calgary, Alberta, Canada–based company, the 120-channel FlexPak6 is designed for easy integration into new user equipment and is capable of tracking all current and upcoming GNSS satellite signals, including GPS L1/L2/L2C/L5 (code and carrier phase), GLONASS L1/L2, Galileo E1/E5a/E5b/Alt-BOC, Compass/BeiDou-2 and satellite-based augmentation systems.

Trimble to Acquire Fugro’s OmniSTAR DGPS Service

Trimble announced on March 16 that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire certain assets related to the OmniSTAR GNSS signal corrections business from Fugro N.V.

The acquisition is expected to significantly expand Trimble’s worldwide ability to provide correction services for a broad range of land-based applications in addition to OmniSTAR’s current focus in agriculture. Fugro’s offshore marine business is unaffected.
