ESA Sponsors GNSS Summer School this September in Denmark

An informal discussion at the 2009 GNSS summer school

Online registration is open for the fourth International Summer School on Global Navigation Satellite systems. The 10-day course will take place at the GPS Center at Aalborg University in Slettestrand, Denmark from Wednesday afternoon, September 1 through Saturday morning, September 11.

Held for the first two years at University FAF Munich, it now takes place in Denmark with two new lead sponsors, the European Space Agency and Nokia.

ESA International Summer School 2010 on GNSS

The fourth International Summer School on GNSS has a new location and two new lead sponsors: the European Space Agency and Nokia.

It will take place at the Danish GPS Center at Aalborg University in Slettestrand, Denmark from September 1 through 11.

The summer school welcomes graduate students, post doctorate researchers and young professionals. Enrollment is limited to 50 students, so register soon.

NovAtel Inc. Announces New OEMStar Models, New SPAN IMU

SPANS IMU-LCI integrated GNSS/Inertial

Canadian GNSS OEM manufacturer NovAtel Inc. has introduced five new models to its low cost, L1 OEMStar receiver card product line and four new models to the OEMStar-supported FlexPak-G2 enclosure product line. The Calgary, Alberta–based company has also added a new inertial measurement unit (IMU) option to its SPAN (Synchronous Position, Attitude and Navigation) GNSS/inertial product line.

5th ESA Workshop on Satellite Navigation Technologies (NAVITEC)

"Multi-GNSS Navigation Technologies: The Beginning of a New Age" is the theme of the 5th ESA Workshop on Satellite Navigation Technologies.

In addition to multi-GNSS issues, the event will focus on signal design, signal processing, GNSS payload technology effects and integration of navigation technologies with communication services.

The European Space Agency event will be held from December 8 to 10, 2010 at ESTEC, Noordwijk, Netherlands.

Russia to Put 8 CDMA Signals on 4 GLONASS Frequencies

[Corrected March 20] Russia is “close to completion” of a coordination plan for the “whole set of GLONASS signals” that will include eight different CDMA signals on four frequencies, according to Prof. Grigoriy Stupak, deputy director general of the Russian Institute of Space Device Engineering (RISDE) and the general designer for the GLONASS system.

Russia Launches 3 GLONASS-M Satellites

GLONASS launch 2008

[Updated 03:35 GMT, March 2] Russian Space Forces successfully launched three GLONASS satellites from the Baikonur launch site in Kazakhstan on March 2, at 00:19 Moscow time (22:19 GMT, March 1).

The launch had been postponed from last September after an anomaly was discovered in one of the on-orbit space vehicles (SVs) navigation payload.

GLONASS Gets Its Groove Back — 19 Satellites on the Air

[UPDATED Feb. 8, 2010] The Russian GNSS system, GLONASS, has brought its contingent of transmitting satellites back up to 19, as spacecraft launched in December and others off-line for maintenance have returned to healthy status.

Meanwhile,  Voice of Russia, the Russian government’s international radio broadcasting service, has reported that a monitoring station is being established at the Russian Antarctic outpost of Bellingshausen to track GLONASS  satellites. The orbital planes in the constellation are oriented so that GLONASS spacecraft pass over higher latitudes in the northern and southern hemispheres than do the other GNSS systems.

APEC GIT/14: Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation GNSS Implementation Team Meeting

The 14th Meeting of the APEC Global Navigation Satellite System Implementation Team will be held at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel in Seattle, Washington USA from June 21-24, 2010.

Registration is open online at the web address below.

The last meeting held in Singapore tabled a draft strategy for 2010-15 that emphasized intermodal GNSS transportation applications. It will also serve as the focus of the Seattle meeting.
