A Very British GNSS Could Be On the Horizon

As the deal/no-deal Brexit conundrum continues to roil UK politics, the British government has quietly sounded out strategic partners in the so-called “Five Eyes” security alliance for help in launching its own satellite positioning system. Due to leave the European Union on October 31, the UK faces a lockout from the continent’s Galileo system and services, most crucially its–as yet unrealized–Public Regulated Service (PRS), an encrypted navigation signal for governmental-authorized users and sensitive applications, that is, the military.

Air Force’s Space and Missile Systems Center Awards Hosted Payload Solutions Contract to Maxar Technologies

The Air Force’s Space and Missile Systems Center recently awarded Maxar Technologies a firm fixed-price delivery order under the Hosted Payload Solutions Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration will fund the contract, which will commercially host NASA’s Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring of Pollution, or TEMPO instrument.

CASSCA, PNT for Unmanned Systems Slated for Sept. 16-17

The Institute of Navigation’s Cognizant Autonomous Systems for Safety Critical Applications (CASSCA) Conference will feature well-recognized experts and leaders from government, industry and academia. Originally scheduled as part of  ION’s International Technical Meeting (ITM) and Precise Time and Time Interval (PTTI) Systems and Applications in late January, CASSCA was postponed at that time due to an extended impasse between U.S. Congressional leaders and the White House that had created a partial U.S. government shutdown.

With M-Code On Its Way, Collins Aerospace’s New GPS Receiver Ready to Help Customers

Collins Aerospace Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp., has begun taking orders for its latest-generation Miniature PLGR Engine – M-Code (MPE-M) GPS receiver set for 2020 production deliveries. According to independent testing, the MPE-M is the lowest Size, Weight and Power (SWaP) small Type II form factor ground receiver available and incorporates the company’s recently certified Common GPS Module (CGM).
