As it prepares for its sixth annual conference, the Munich Satellite Navigation Summit continues to hone its identity as a genuine "summit," the place for high-level political, military, and corporate leaders to discuss all of the GNSS systems from a strategic perspective.
The 2008 event, “Towards a GNSS System of Systems,” takes place at the Residenz München in Munich, Germany from February 18 through February
21. This year’s conference will include a closing session on “Galileo,
Back on Track Again,” with Jacques Barrot, European Commission
vice-president and transport commissioner since 2004.
Last November, the European Commission accepted oversight of the
languishing Galileo program and shepherded a budget to approval.
Earlier this month, the European Space Agency announced an April launch
date for Galileo’s second experimental satellite
The plenary session on the evening of February 18 will cover the
conference theme with a panel of national-level executives in charge of
transport and GNSS. It will be moderated by summit organizer Prof.-Dr.
Günter Hein, director of the Institute of Geodesy and Navigation at the
Armed Forces University, Munich. The plenary session includes the director general of the European Space Agency, the Australian deputy premier and finance minister, and the deputy director of the Russian space agency.

On February 20, representatives of all of the GNSSes, regional, and
augmentation systems will discuss news of their programs in the morning
session, “Getting Updated.”
Panelists include U.S. GPS Wing Commander Dave Madden; the deputy head
of the Russian mission control center, Sergey Revnivykh; and Didier
Faivre, head of the European Space Agency’s navigation programs.
