With the Australian government’s announcement earlier this month that it would invest $12 million in a two-year program looking into the future of positioning technology in Australia, comes plans for testing of satellite based augmentation systems (SBAS) to be undertaken, and for future applications for all four major modes of transport in Australia, as well as for potential safety, productivity, efficiency and environmental benefits.

The U.S. Air Force has approved Lockheed Martin’s current GPS satellite ground control system upgrade to enable it to operate with more powerful and accurate GPS III satellites, the company said.
The Air Force’s Critical Design Review (CDR) for the Contingency Operations (COps) contract, completed on November 17, allows Lockheed Martin to proceed with the modification of the existing Architecture Evolution Plan (AEP) Operational Control Segment. The AEP, maintained by Lockheed Martin, controls the 31 GPS IIR, IIR-M and IIF satellites in orbit.

The 23rd world congress on intelligent transportation systems will take place at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from October 10 through October 14, 2016. ITS Australia hosts this year’s event on behalf of ITS Asia Pacific, ITS America and ERTICO.
Melbourne is know for its intelligent transport system network that has become one of the best in the world. The conference organizers expect 7,000 international delegates and 300 exhibitors.
The them is "ITS-Enhancing Liveable Cities and Communities."

The 2016 Trimble Dimensions user conference and exhibition will take place at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas on November 7, 8 and 9.
The annual event gathers users of Trimble’s products including positioning technology for unmanned systems as well as mapping, GIS, surveying, photgrammetry and remote sensing and other technologies of interest to readers of Inside GNSS.

The topic of the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) working week 2016 is "Recovery from Disaster." It will take place at the Horncastle arena and Addington Events Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand from May 2 through May 6. Appropriately enough, Christchurch has deep familiarity with recovery from disaster after the 2010-11 earthquake sequence that took place there.

It attracts 16,000 visitors from 92 countries who work in the surveying, geoinformation, remote sensing and photogrammetry fields. This is the event’s 21st year.
