APEC GIT/14: Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation GNSS Implementation Team Meeting

The 14th Meeting of the APEC Global Navigation Satellite System Implementation Team will be held at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel in Seattle, Washington USA from June 21-24, 2010.

Registration is open online at the web address below.

The last meeting held in Singapore tabled a draft strategy for 2010-15 that emphasized intermodal GNSS transportation applications. It will also serve as the focus of the Seattle meeting.

Galileo Program to Announce Key Contracts Soon

Winners of key Galileo contracts will be announced January 7 or 8, following a quiet period after the European Space Agency (ESA) recommended the OHB System/Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. (SSTL) team for building the first round of eight full operational capability (FOC) satellites.

Former competitors ThalesAleniaSpace, Italy, and Logica, The Netherlands, reportedly will join forces to carry out the contract for Work Package 1, Galileo system support, which includes responsibility for system and signal-in-space engineering.

The fourth European workshop on GNSS signals and signal processing will take place at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany on Thursday and Friday, December 10-11 2009.

The keynote speech on “European GNSS Programs Status and Perspectives on Signals” will be given by Frédéric Bastide, European Commission (DG-Energy & Transport).

Galileo Program Recalibrates Schedule, Budget, Open Signal ICD

Galileo program managers appear to have bowed to the unavoidable and acknowledged that completing the European satellite navigation system will take longer and cost more than their revised estimates of 2014 and  €3.4-billion ($5.04-billion), respectively

And, although a revised Galileo Open Service Signal-in-Space Interface Control Document (OS-SIS-ICD) will appear soon allowing manufacture and sale of Galileo equipment without a license, the ICD will still require a license for commercial use of the intellectual property contained in the document.

CERGAL 2010, GNSS Certification Symposium, Issues Call for Papers

The 2010 CERGAL symposium will take place in the Baltic city of Rostock, in northern Germany, next April 28-29.

This year, the Symposium on Certification of GNSS Systems and Services will concentrate on maritime and inland waterways applications and GNSS testing infrastructure.

In addition to those topics, papers are invited on GNSS system aspects and aviation, road, rail and other special applications. Abstracts are due on November 30, 2009.
