Munich Satellite Navigation Summit 2012

The 2012 Munich Satellite Navigation Summit will take place at the Residenz Munchen in Germany from March 13 to 15. This year’s opening plenary theme is "GNSS and Security."

This year marks the 10th anniversary of this key European and international event on the policies and direction of the global navigation satellite systems.

United Nations International Meeting on The Applications of GNSS

[Updated Sept 7, 2011] The United Nations and the United States will co-sponsor a special meeting to commemorate 10 years of achievement on the global navigation satellite systems on December 12-16, 2011 at the United Nations office Vienna International Center in Vienna, Austria.

The main discussion will center around the International Committee on GNSS (ICG),  created by The UN Office of Outer Space Affairs (OOSA) in 2005 to bring together all system providers and smooth the way for global development of the satellite navigation systems.

IET London: Modernised Satellite Navigation Seminar

The head of the Galileo program division of the UK’s space agency, the PRS expert at the European GNSS agency and the director of the Nottingham Geospatial Institute are just a few of the speakers at a one-day seminar in central London on October 5 called "Modernized Satellite Navigation: The Implementation of GNSS Programmes and Future Challenges."

Telematics@China Conference

The 2011 Telematics@China conference and exhibition will be held at the Shanghai Marriott Hotel City Centre in Shanghai, China from Wednesday through Friday, December 7-9.

The annual event, which began in 2008, is sponsored by the Automotive Engineers of China (SAE-China) and supported by a number of government departments. The conference will feature 90 speakers from all sectors of the telematics industry. Organizers expect 1,000 attendees from China and the rest of the world.

Six judges — satellite navigation engineering experts from Stanford University, the Air Force Institute of Technology, Overlook Systems, NovAtel, KLA Global, the Institute of Navigation, and Inside GNSS — will select the finalists in the 2011 USA Challenge, one of 23 regional contests in this year’s European Satellite Navigation Competition (ESNC).

China Announces Successful Compass/BeiDou-2 Satellite Launch

[Updated 7:30 p.m. July 26 PDT) China launched another Compass/BeiDou-2 satellite at 5:44 on the morning of July 27 (Sichuan time zone). It is the ninth spacecraft in China’s indigenous satellite navigation and positioning network and the fourth in inclined geosynchronous orbit.

The navigation satellite was launched on a Long March-3A carrier rocket, according to China’s government-sponsored Compass website at www.beidou.gov.cn.

Summer Dreams: Case Western Wins Robotic Lawnmower Contest

2011 Case Western Reserve team winning robotic lawnmower

A team from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio took home the top $15,000 prize and a special award for the most aesthetically pleasing cut in the three-day 2011 Robotic Lawnmower Competition held in Dayton, Ohio on May 31 through June 2.

The second place award of $10,000 went to Auburn University and Wright State University won the third place prize of $5,500.

China Plans Another Eight Compass/BeiDou Lanches by End of 2012

According to a May 19 People’s Daily report, China will launch another eight Beidou navigation satellites before the end of next year.

Speaking at the second Chinese Satellite Navigation Academic Annual Meeting in Shanghai on May 18, Ran Chengqi, the director of the Chinese Satellite Navigation Administrative Office, said the overall testing of the Compass/BeiDou satellite navigation system will be finished on Oct. 10, 2011.

CSNC 2011: China Satellite Navigation Conference

The second China Satellite Navigation conference will take place at Shanghai’s Expo Center on May 18-20, 2011.

The conference scientific chair is Prof. Sun Jiadong.
