Pendulum Instruments, Stockholm, Sweden, has introduced four new options for the company’s GPS-12 Portable Frequency Standard family.
First released in 2006, the GPS-12R, a portable GPS controlled rubidium Frequency Standard with battery backup power, supplies a variety of standard frequencies for general metrology (1, 5, and 10 MHz), base station test (13 MHz) and telecom (E1/T1 clock/data).
Now the GPS-12 family has been extended with two new oscillator options — a low—cost OCXO (Model GPS-12) and high stability rubidium (Option HS, complementing the existing standard rubidium oscillator); external 1 PPS disciplining Option HS (for letting a cesium standard or hydrogen maser control the GPS-12R); and control and monitoring software (GPS12-Monitor). Instruments with the new options will be available in August.
The external disciplining input Option 79/01 enables users to lock the GPS-12(R) to high-accuracy frequency standards on the bench and disconnect at any time from input and power supply to allow movement of the frequency standard to a new location.
GPS12-Monitor provides users with the ability to read all display info and status and control all front panel settings remotely. The software communicates with GPS-12(R) over the USB bus, and runs on Microsoft Windows.
The battery-power GPS-12R maintains an ultra-high accuracy when moved to test objects inside a building or facility area, according to Pendulum, and its zero warm-up time even after lengthy transport to a new location makes it suitable for telecom and general calibration field use. The GPS-12R is also suitable as an ultra-stable in-house frequency standard for metrology, research labs, and test systems.
