UN/ ICG Workshop: GNSS for Scientific Applications

A weeklong workshop on GNSS and its scientific applications in low-latitude regions of the world will be held in Trieste, Italy at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) on December 1-5, 2014.

The five-day event will be held in English. It is sponsored by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and organized by the USA and European Commission through the UN’s International Committee on GNSS (ICG).

Women and men in senior management or decision-making positions in government agencies, research institutions, industry and non-governmental organizations are encouraged to apply to participate and present. The deadline for applications and abstracts is August 22, 2014.

The event will include plenary sessions and wide-ranging discussions among participants to determine priority areas for pilot projects and possible partnerships. A half day technical tour is included. Topics include:

  • Use of the global and regional navigation satellite systems for sustainable development
  • Case studies on the use of GNSS in civil aviation, transportation, PNT in maritime environment, precision agriculture, disaster- and emergency management, seismic monitoring, surveying and mapping, timing and telecommunications.
  • GNSS reference station system and services
  • GNSS and space and atmosphere weather monitoring
  • and more
