Former U.S. Space Commerce Official Joins ITT

Edward M. Morris, formerly executive director for the U.S. Office of Space Commercialization, Department of Commerce, has joined ITT Space Systems Division (SSD) as executive director of strategic business development.

In his new position, Morris will be responsible for strategic program and business development of GPS navigation systems and additional space-related capabilities.

In his new position, Morris will be responsible for strategic program and business development of GPS navigation systems and additional space-related capabilities.

ITT SSD has designed and built the navigation payloads that have flown on every GPS satellite ever launched — more than 60 spacecraft. ITT is also part of a team led by Raytheon Company competing for a contract to build the next-generation GPS ground control segment (OCX). ITT is providing the navigation processing elements of the OCX phase engineering demonstration model as well as the precision monitor station receivers.

In his space commerce role at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Morris served as industry liaison within the executive branch to help the U.S. government maximize the use of space goods and services. He was also responsible for implementation of positioning, navigation and timing, commercial remote sensing, and related space policies.

Before his federal appointment, Morris was senior director of Washington operations for Orbital Sciences Corporation responsible for developing new space and defense strategic opportunities and held a number of program management positions. Early in his career, he served in the Air Force in a variety of acquisition and operational space assignments.
