Giovanni Garofalo is a telecommunications engineer of the Technical Directorate at ESA/ESTEC.

Between 1984 and 1989 he was with ALENIA SPAZIO involved in ITALSAT system and ground segment design and testing.

In 1989 Garofalo joined ESA where he has been doing R&D activities in various fields including: On Board Processing systems (circuit/packet/ATM Switches, MCD Demodulators and other end to end activities including remote clock synchronizations), advanced digital payloads front ends, EGNOS GNSS activities, MSS activities including BGAN (Inmarsat) services extensions, new Air Traffic Management satcom services (IRIS) and Inmarsat I6 new service definition and development.
