Focal Point Positioning Hires LaMance as CXO

Focal Point Positioning, a deep tech start-up whose technologies address the core problem of GNSS inaccuracies due to multipath and spoofing, hasannounced the hire of GPS industry veteran Jim LaMance as Chief Experience Officer to support the growth of the business as it ramps up its in-market trialling and integration activities.

LaMance is the second executive hire for FocalPoint in the past quarter, on the heels of the announcement of new CEO Scott Pomerantz. His hiring comes amid significant growth in the company’s field engineering and software teams, with the company set to almost double its year-on-year headcount by the end of 2021, to 34.

Jim LaMance’s career highlights include the development of GPS navigation system for the NASA X-34 rocket plane while at Constell and developing high-sensitivity track-less GPS receiver pioneered by Global Locate (acquired by Broadcom). As CTO at Locata, he led the development of a high precision, time-synchronized, ground-based positioning system, before shifting to a customer-focused role, supporting the design, integration and development of precision positioning systems in partnership with some of the world’s largest industrial OEMs.

FocalPoint CEO Scott Pomerantz commented: “Jim’s experience in this industry is unparalleled, we’re excited to have him join the team to lead our interaction with key customers. The respect he commands from colleagues and peers, combined with his track record of bringing groundbreaking GNSS products to market will take our field trialling and integration capabilities to the next level.”

LaMance commented: ““Accuracy is addictive, I’ve seen it time and time again as positioning technologies have developed; and now we have Supercorrelation that adds supercharged value to any receiver. Right now, I’m focused on our customers’ pain points and ensuring our development team can service their requirements. We’re in this for the long haul.”

Scott Pomerantz and Jim LaMance will be attending in person this year’s Institute of Navigation ION GNSS+ Conference in St Louis, Missouri to connect with old friends and colleagues, advance current FocalPoint engagements and meet with businesses who are interested in exploring the potential for FocalPoint’s Supercorrelation technology to drive gains in sensitivity, reliability and accuracy in GNSS receivers.

FocalPoint President and CTO Dr Ramsey Faragher will be attending virtually, chairing a panel on GNSS Authentication and Anti-spoofing and appearing on a panel to discuss GNSS Chipset Technology Trends, Opportunities and Challenges.
