Sygic Incorporates Augmented Reality Into its GPS Navigation App

Bratislava, Slovakia-based Sygic has added a new augmented reality (AR) feature to its advanced GPS navigation app. More than 200 million Sygic users worldwide can now engage with AR for an improved navigation experience on the road, the company said.

Sygic’s new AR feature uses a smartphone’s GPS and camera to implement an augmented reality-powered GPS navigation system. With the AR feature, drivers no longer need to follow a map on their phones. Instead, they’re guided by a virtual path on the smartphone camera preview.

Applanix, University of Waterloo Collaborate on Advanced Technologies for Autonomous Vehicles

Applanix, a Trimble Company, announced this week that it is collaborating on advanced research for autonomous vehicle guidance and control systems with the University of Waterloo Centre in Ontario, Canada for Automotive Research (WatCAR). Applanix will provide WatCAR with its Positioning and Orientation System (POS) for testing autonomous guidance and control systems in real-world conditions. Applanix will also provide the Trimble GNSS-Inertial board set for integration with car systems and sensors to enable precise positioning.

Tersus GNSS Broadens Offerings to Include New Inertial Navigation System

Tersus GNSS Inc., a GNSS RTK manufacturing company based in Shanghai, China, has launched the INS-T-306 GNSS-Aided Inertial Navigation System. The advanced module combines GPS L1/L2, GLONASS, BeiDou and a high-performance strapdown system. It is designed to determine position, velocity and absolute orientation (heading, pitch and roll) for any device on which it is mounted.

The INS unit aims to facilitate the motionless and dynamic applications which need high accuracy, including vessels, ships, helicopters, UAVs, UGVs, and land vehicles, according to the company.
