Horten, Norway–based Sensonor AS has introduced the STIM300, a small, lightweight and low-power high performance inertial measurement unit (IMU).

According to the company, as a standalone (non-GPS–aided) product insensitive to magnetic fields, the STIM300 offers 0.5 degree/hour gyro bias instability, 0.15 degree/ √hour angular random walk, 10 degree/hour gyro bias error over temperature gradients, 0.05-mg accelerometer bias instability, and axis misalignment of one milliradian. The weight is less than 0.12 pounds (55 grams), and volume is less than 2.2 cubic inches (35 cubic centimeters).

Despite its performance specifications, the IMU is not subject to export restrictions of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

“The STIM300 is an important addition to our inertia portfolio and another step in our strategy to increase our reach in the high performance inertial market,” says Hans R. Petersen, vice-president of marketing and strategic sales at Sensonor. “With STIM300 in our portfolio, we can address more applications in the navigation and guidance segment. The performance of the sensor cluster in STIM300 allows navigation tasks that earlier had to be addressed by FOG (Fiber Optic Gyro) solutions.”
