Following up on the “strategic guidance” on defense spending that the White House laid out last month, President Obama has proposed a Fiscal Year 2013 (FY13) budget that continues funding for GPS modernization efforts.
The president’s FY13 budget request released February 13 proposed the following expenditures: GPS IIF satellite procurement, $58.147,000; acquisition of GPS III satellites, including advance procurement, $429,910,000 million; ground segment equipment, $7,741,000; GPS IIF and control segment, research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E), $14,335,000; GPS III satellites development, RDT&E funding, $318,992,000; Next Generation Operational Control System (OCX) Development, RDT&E, $371,595,000; GPS User equipment, RDT&E, $29,621,000, to complete the modernized user equipment (MUE) program, including technology sample demonstrations.
Another $96.84 million in FY13 for GPS user equipment RDT&E in included for FY13, presumably to continue the next-generation Military GPS User Equipment (MGUE) program into the engineering, manufacturing, and development phase.
