The ITU (InternationalTelecommunications Union) and the BIPM (International Bureau of Weights and Measures) will hold a workshop on the Future of Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) on September 19 and 20 at the ITU offices, Avenue Giuseppe-Motta, in Geneva, Switzerland.
Felicitas Arias, director of the BIPM’s Time, Frequency and Gravimetry department, said, "This information is important to the GNSS community since the proposed changes in the definition of UTC will have an impact on the GNSS times and operations. Representatives from all GNSS have been invited to contribute to the event."
This workshop will provide a unique opportunity to get all available
information on currently used and discussed precise frequency and time
standards, sources and their characteristics, time scales and
dissemination systems and different views on the future of UTC.
Because of the impact and applications of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) this workshop is open to participants from user communities, and not only managers and technicians from national radiocommunication agencies.
