u-blox GNSS Module Featured in Tracking Device

Thalwil, Switzerland-based u-blox has announced that two of its products have been used by Cobilsys to create a small, battery-powered asset tracking device.

Cobilsys' ATPACK tracker measures 53 by 48 by 15 millimeters and can be used to track the location of cars, motorcycles, and pets, the company said. The product uses a u-blox EVA-M8M, the industry's smallest GNSS module, which works with GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, and BeiDou, the company said.

u-blox Releases Integrated Antenna GNSS Receiver

Thalwil, Switzerland-based u-blox has released its SAM-M8Q GNSS receiver with integrated antenna. The compact SAM-M8Q module speeds time to market for GNSS system developers who have limited experience in radio frequency (RF) and antenna design, the company said.

SAM-M8Q, housed in a 15.5 by 15.5 x 6.3 millimeter package, can be embedded in small devices that require location information, the company said. These include asset tracking, telematics systems, and generic automotive after-market applications.

GPS PNT Enhances GOES-R Space Weather Satellite Mission

A United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket carrying the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite R-series (GOES-R) for National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) lifted off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, yesterday (November 19, 2016) headed for geosynchronous orbit.

NOAA Expands GNSS Data Sources for Weather Prediction

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will purchase data from small commercial satellites to expand its GNSS radio occultation (RO) efforts to better predict weather.

In September NOAA, through the government's Commercial Weather Data Pilot program, awarded contracts to San Francisco, California-based Spire Global ($370,000) and GeoOptics ($695,000), of Pasadena, California, to provide RO data. This data will be used to assess whether commercially provided information can be incorporated into the agency's weather models.
