United Arab Emirates GNSS Applications Workshop

The United Nations International Committee on GNSS (ICG) and the U.S. State Department has organized a workshop on GNSS applications from Sunday, January 16 to Thursday, January 20, 2011, at the campus of the Higher Colleges of Technology in Dubai Academic City.


The United Nations International Committee on GNSS (ICG) and the U.S. State Department has organized a workshop on GNSS applications from Sunday, January 16 to Thursday, January 20, 2011, at the campus of the Higher Colleges of Technology in Dubai Academic City.

This is one in a series of workshops organized internationally by the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs and its various divisions to promote the use of satellite navigation applications. It is the first to be held in the Middle East. It is co-sponsored by EIAST ( Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology ).

Participants include policymakers and experts from UAE agencies and institutions, the UN, non-governmental organizations, researchers, academics and industry leaders.

Sessions will cover trends in satellite-based navigation systems; initiatives and experiences in GNSS user applications with case studies and practical cooperation models; GNSS reference station systems and services featuring national projects; the International Space Weather Initiative and Education and training in the use of GNSS technologies.

Discussions will focus on regional cooperation in applying GNSS technology. A technical site visit of EIAST follows the meeting.

Presentations will be available two weeks after the workshop on the UNOOSA website.
