The Russian Defense Ministry has publicized tests of its new Tornado-S precision missile, which takes GLONASS data input for its target and flies in squads capable of taking out dispersed enemy formations. The missile comes in a multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) that can fire up to 12 missiles simultaneously in a coordinated attack.

According to a news report,“Sprut-N1 [a] new-generation precision navigation radio system (RNS) has been created for the Russian Navy. It will determine geographic location, speed and altitude with a precision superior to that of GLONASS and GPS. The coordinates are determined by ground stations of the system which transmit coded signals to warships and aircraft. The main advantage against satellite navigation is that the signal of the high-tech system cannot be jammed, the Izvestia daily writes.”

The Russian military jammed GPS signals during a major NATO military exercise in Norway between October 16 and November 7, according to multiple published reports this week. The military exercise involved thousands of U.S. and NATO troops, CNN reported, citing the Norwegian government.

Now, more than six years later, Russian prosecutors have wrapped up a criminal case against four employees of Energia allegedly complicit in the crash of the Proton booster with three GLONASS satellites, and they’ve sent the case files to a court of law.

The Russian news agency TASS has reported that the launch of GLONASS-M satellite No. 53 from the Plesetsk cosmodrome has been rescheduled from May 21 to May 29, according to Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems CEO Nikolay Testoyedov.
The launch postponement has nothing to do with the satellite’s condition, Testoyedov said.
Russia’s State Space Corporation Roscosmos announced earlier that a Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket was expected to bring a new Glonass-M satellite into orbit.
