As a member of the Commission 1 (Reference Frames) of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) and as a working group of the Cartographic Commission of the Pan-American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), SIRGAS supports the development and all scientific and practical activities related to precise geo-referencing and navigation, Earth sciences research, and multidisciplinary applications.

This SIRGAS Continuously Operating Network (SIRGAS-CON) is currently composed by about 250 permanently operating GNSS sites, 48 of them belonging to the global IGS network. The operational performance of SIRGAS-CON is based on the contribution of more than 50 Latin American organizations, which install and operate the permanent stations and voluntarily provide the tracking data for the weekly processing of the network.
