Hemisphere GPS has introduced its LX-2, a second-generation L-band differential GPS OEM receiver board.

The new LX-2 augments Hemisphere GPS’ Crescent P100 and Eclipse P200 GPS receivers with OmniSTAR differential HP, XP, or VBS signal support.

By tracking OmniSTAR’s commercial L-band satellite-based signals, the LX-2 improves the position accuracy of standalone GPS positions — for Eclipse receivers to sub-decimeter levels and Crescent receivers, to half-meter levels, according to the Calgary, Alberta, Canada–headquartered company.

With the included subscriber access functionality, customers can activate subscriptions remotely via satellite uplink. Although the LX-2 automatically tracks the best available satellite transmissions, customers have the option to manually set which satellites are tracked. LX-2 is supported by Hemisphere GPS’ exclusive COAST technology designed to maintain accuracy during temporary loss of a differential signal.

Intended for use by original equipment manufacturers that want to augment P200 and P100 series boards with L-band differential capability, the LX-2 has the same form factor as the P200 and P100 for ease of new, replacement, or upgraded designs. Hemisphere also GPS plans to integrate this new technology into existing and future GPS and GNSS receiver products.

The LX-2 OEM board will be available through the Hemisphere GPS Precision Products global dealer network starting in June 2011.
