Orolia Upgrades U.S. SAR Ground Stations for the NOAA

Orolia, which provides GNSS-based systems for defense and commercial industries around the world, has successfully installed the world’s first operational Cospas-Sarsat second-generation technology on search and rescue ground stations for the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Florida and Hawaii. These ground stations have been upgraded with Second Generation Beacon (SGB) signal processing capabilities to more accurately and quickly locate the source of distress signals.

“GPS 101” was the title of the GPS Caucus inaugural event last week at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center. The caucus was recently formed by Senators Ernst and Duckworth and Representatives Loebsack and Bacon, with the support of the GPS Innovation Alliance.

GUIANA SPACE CENTER, KOUROU – Four O3b Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellites were successfully launched by Arianespace at the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, French Guiana on April 4 at 14:03 PM local time, SES announced today.

EU’s ESCAPE Project Launches Positioning Module for Autonomous Driving

Automated vehicles are on the way, and the European GNSS Agency (GSA) sees satellite navigation as a core technology that will help to ensure their safe operation. At the recent Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the GSA shared its space with the “ESCAPE” project, a European Union-funded initiative that has developed a unique positioning module for autonomous or semi-autonomous driving.

FY20 Budget Request Focuses on GPS IIIF, Boosts Money for User Equipment
