Norway and the European Commission signed a cooperation agreement on satellite navigation last week (September 22) that will make the Scandinavian nation — which is a member of the European Space Agency (ESA) but not the European Union — a fuller participant in the EU’s GNSS program.

Prague Congress CentreThe workshop on GNSS Applications for Human Benefit and Development is sponsored by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs and the International Astronautical Federation (IAF).
It is the 20th joint UN-IAF workshop and will be held at the Prague Congress Centre (PCC) in Prague, Czech Republic just before the 61st International Astronautical Congress that runs from September 27-October 1. Participants at either event are welcome at the other.

The 2010 Growing Galileo Information Day will take place in Brussels at the Charlemagne Building on Wednesday, September 22 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Interested companies and researchers will learn about the third call for proposals for GNSS research under the European Union’s 7th Framework Programme (FP7)
The event will help interested developers hone their applications for satellite navigation projects. A total of €38 million is available through the third call, which was published July 20, 2010.

Passive Hydrogen Maser (PHM) flight model on GIOVE-B (ESA photo) SELEX Galileo, an Edinburgh, Scotland company, has signed a €30 million contract with with Surrey Satellite Technology LTD (SSTL) to supply PHM atomic clocks for all 14 Galileo FOC (full operational capability) satellites.
The PHM-Passive Hydrogen Maser- clock is the most stable for space
applications and has been tested successfully in GIOVE-B, the Galileo
system’s second validation satellite, which was launched in 2008.
The European Parliament will hold a high-level conference for industry and political decisionmakers on European space policy at the European Parliament Hemicycle in Brussels, Belgium on October 26 and 27, 2010. It is organized by Business Bridge Europe (BBE) and Parliament’s Sky and Space Intergroup.

GPS IIF-SV1 launch. United Launch Alliance photo[Updated July 22, 2010] Air Force officials at the GPS Wing have confirmed that higher-the-expected range residuals detected by researchers at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) are appearing in signals transmitted by the first GPS IIF satellite, designated SVN/62/PRN25.
But the Air Force and Boeing Space and Intelligence Systems, which built the spacecraft, point out SVN62 is currently performing within specifications, and the signal phenomenon does not appear likely to have any significant effect on GPS positioning when the satellite is declared operational.
