Astrium Services and Allsat GmbH network+services have created a joint venture, AXIO-NET GmbH, to offer precise navigation and positioning services across Europe.
The companies, which formed a JV in September 2007 to operate the German ascos service, have created a trans-European brand — AXIO-NET — to extend the service, based on a network of reference stations that generate high-accuracy differential corrections of GPS and GLONASS satellite signals.

Allsat has participated in the setup and operation of ascos since 1999. In 2000 these activities were transferred to Allsat. AXIO-NET will continue all ascos services (ascos PED, ascos ED, ascos Trans, ascos NET, ascos net4free und ascos ViPP) to its users in Germany, according to the company.
E.ON Ruhrgas AG established ascos in 1999, to handle the maintenance and operation of its pipeline network. Allsat played a key role in developing, implementing, and operating ascos. This business domain is now migrated to AXIO-NET GmbH.
Precise navigation and positioning services support a host of applications in numerous sectors including agriculture, utilities, transport, forestry, surveying, and construction.
Stefan Sassen, director of navigation services for EADS Astrium, headquartered in Muncih, Germany, and Jürgen Rüffer, managing director of Hannover-based Allsat, will serve as managing directors of the new company.
