The 2011 International Association of Geodesy (IAG) General Assembly will be part of the International Union for Geodesy and Geophysics international conference, to be held at the new Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre in Melbourne, Australia from June 28 to July 7, 2011.
IUGG is an umbrella association of eight scientific associations.The IAG
representatives are Hermann Drewes, IAG secretary general and Chris
Rizos, IAG national program co-convenor.
The IUGG 2011 theme is "Earth on the Edge: Science for a Sustainable Planet."
The conference will cover the sciences of climate and climate change, natural hazards, atmospheric and ocean dynamics, geodesy, seismology and geodynamics, geomagnetism and aeronomy, cryospheric science, or the science of ice, volcanology and geochemistry, and hydrology and hydrogeology. The conference will provide a comprehensive program of specialist symposia in these fields, as well as many interdisciplinary symposia relevant to the dynamics of the Earth and the major environmental problems confronting the planet Earth, mankind and Earth’s complex ecosystem.
In addition to scientific sessions, the conference will feature a number of special events, including a choice of eight fieldtrips and workshops to geologically interesting sites in Australia and New Zealand.
The convention center is located on the Yarra River in central Melbourne.
