Webinar – Protecting GNSS from Spoofing and Jamming

While reliance on GNSS data continues to grow across various sectors, so too does the threat of spoofing and jamming. The GNSS signals so many depend on are vulnerable to interference, making it critical to strengthen resiliency against such threats.

Maintaining the integrity and reliability of global positioning and timing services is, of course, an industry priority, with authorities, academics and manufacturers working together to develop solutions that protect PNT. Last fall, the Norwegian Communications Authority held its third Jammertest, where all three came together to discuss the growing interference problem and actually test various solutions designed to mitigate spoofing and jamming.

Tests were conducted in three different locations during the event and included complex jamming and spoofing scenarios; single and multiple-frequency jammers; high power jammers (20W); CW and wideband jammers; and fundamental and advanced spoofing attacks.

Hexagon | NovAtel was among the industry leaders who participated in the Norwegian trial, testing its GNSS Resilience and Integrity Technology, or GRIT, in real-life jamming and spoofing scenarios.  GRIT is an OEM7 firmware suite that provides situational awareness and interference mitigation tools. An OEM7 receiver card paired with a GNSS-850 geodetic grade antenna was evaluated as part of the testing.

During an upcoming webinar, “Enhanced GNSS Jamming & Spoofing Resilience,” attendees will learn more about Jammertest and just how well NovAtel’s advanced technologies performed. Esteemed panelists from Hexagon’s Autonomy & Positioning division and the Norwegian Communications Authority will also discuss interference classification and anti-spoofing protection with Open Service Navigation Message Authentication (OSNMA) as part of this can’t-miss webinar. Panelists include:

Ali Broumandan, Principal GNSS Designer/Resilient GNSS Lead, Hexagon’s Autonomy & Positioning division

Adam Cox, Team Lead Defense Application Engineer, Hexagon’s Autonomy & Positioning division

Nicolai Gerrard, Senior Engineer, Spectrum Department/Section for Supervision and Guidance, Norwegian Communications Authority

GNSS jamming and spoofing events represent significant threats to global navigation and security systems. Such interference can result in severe consequences including misguiding transportation systems, compromising military operations and undermining critical infrastructure. Learn more about how the industry is addressing the interference challenge in this upcoming webinar, which is slated for March 26 at 12 p.m. Eastern.
