Baseband Technologies, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, has announced its GPS/PC Jr, a real-time software GPS receiver IP solution.
Targeting low-cost consumer and commercial applications, the Windows-based product processes the GPS L1, C/A code signal with an RF tracking sensitivity of –150 dBm and real-time accuracy of better than 10 meters, according to the company.
Baseband’s offering includes a reference design and technical documentation describing the functions and operations of each major component, such as the RF integrated circuit (IC), USB IC, circuit diagrams and executable GPS navigation software. A starter kit is also available.
Without the traditional hardware receiver receiver design based on GPS chipsets or dedicated ASICs (application-specific ICs), a software-based receiver can be upgraded inexpensively by uploading new design features and improved algorithms.
