NaviForum, China’s large GNSS industry event, has been postponed from this December until next year.
“Due to the big earthquake and Olympics game in China, the Chinese government decided to postpone the NaviForum to sometime next year,” NaviForum organizer Peter Zhou told Inside GNSS. Zhou is executive secretary of the conference’s organizing committee.

The 2007 Shanghai NaviForum provided a forum for the first extended, official public presentation on China’s GNSS program, Compass (Beidou II).
During the usual NaviForum time slot, the Society of Automotive Engineers of China will organize “Telematics@China,” with the NaviForum committee serving as agenda partner for the event.
The conference represents an expansion of the NaviForum 2007 telematics track and is being billed as the first telematics and traffic information service summit in China. More than 30 international speakers and 400 delegates throughout the value chain of the telematics industry are expected to take part.
“Telematics@China” takes place on Friday, December 12 at Shanghai’s Huating Hotel and Towers. The theme of the conference is “Let Automobile Drivers Enjoy Information Services as Mobile Phone Users Do.”
It will focus on the integration of GNSS and mobile communications technology in auto navigation systems and traffic information systems, a fast-growing industry in China.
In an interview in a recent NaviForum newsletter, Zhou said “Telematics has more than 10 years’ development in other countries, but in China, it has been discussed only at NaviForum for two to three years. Last year, 94 automakers from China and abroad attended NaviForum, most of whom showed great interests in telematics and talked further with Chinese mobile operators.”
