GNSS technology, which has been in the background of many intelligent transport system (ITS) projects and programs, will be front and center at the ITS World Congress 2015 next week (October 5-9, 2015) in Bordeaux, France.
Under the theme, “Towards Intelligent Mobility — Better Use of Space,” the event will draw thousands of registered attendees and around 200 exhibitors to take part in technical sessions, panel discussions, and demonstrations of ITS technology, products, and servuces.

Under the theme, “Towards Intelligent Mobility — Better Use of Space,” the event will draw thousands of registered attendees and around 200 exhibitors to take part in technical sessions, panel discussions, and demonstrations of ITS technology, products, and servuces.
The topic, ‘Space Technologies and Services for ITS” will highlight leaders in the program and in the exhibition area who will demonstrate the benefits, challenges and opportunities that GNSS, mapping, and satellite technology can deliver to the ITS industry. The exhibition will feature European GNSS Village, an area in the exhbition area with 25 selected small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that will demonstrate how ITS could benefit from the wide range of innovative GNSS-based solutions.
Demonstrations of space technologies for ITS includeThales Alenia Space, Telespazio France and Eclexys showing the “Added Value of Galileo and EGNOS in a Multi-Constellation Receiver, Italy’s Istituto Superiori Mario Boella (ISMB) demonstrating “Spoofing Attack Detection Exploiting Galileo Signal Authentication,” Navocap – IIDRE’s GPS-based ANGEO personal navigation device for visually impaired people, and the Nottingham Scientific Ltd (NSL) Detector System covering the deployment of a series of GNSS interference and jammer detection systems within the road transport network.
A related set of demonstrations, including one by Renault, will focus on automated roads and autonomous and automated driving. Swiss GNSS manufacturer u-blox, which is exhibiting at the Congress, is contributing its blueprint development board, including its unique M8 concurrent GNSS module and Automotive Dead Reckoning (ADR) technology, to the Renault demo.
Other GNSS-related events include “GNSS Services and Performance Standardization Workshop” organized by François Peyret, of the French Institute of Science and Technology for Transport, Development, and Networks (IFSTTAR) and the Jupiter project in the exhibition area, which will host B2B meetings with other SMEs and investors, and training sessions about European GNSS for ITS developers, and local administrators and officers.
