Loctronix Corporation, a provider of unified positioning solutions for mobile devices, has announced that the company successfully demonstrated the ability of its Mobile Explorer Platform (MEP) to provide meter-level accuracy position and navigation information indoors.
The product was shown publicly for the first time during the telecommunication industry’s recent Mobile World Congress (MWC) conference in Barcelona, Spain.

The product was shown publicly for the first time during the telecommunication industry’s recent Mobile World Congress (MWC) conference in Barcelona, Spain.
The company, based in Woodinville, Washington, USA, developed MEP’s indoor-outdoor positioning and navigation capability as an embedded solution for location-based service (LBS) providers, device manufacturers and chipmakers to support the growing demand for indoor location-centric services and applications, said Michael Mathews, Loctronix’ CEO and Founder.
MEP is a multi-sensor fusion processor utilizing Loctronix’ Doppler Aided Inertial Navigation (DAIN) and Spectral Compression Positioning (SCP) technologies to deliver fully autonomous positioning and navigation information for indoor/outdoor applications.
According to the company, MEP does not require any external location server support, having everything it needs to enable the hosting device. The capability can reside in suitably equipped mobile consumer or commercial devices, giving the user positioning performance outdoors, indoors or underground.
The MEP platform offers the following features and capabilities:
· client-based, sensor fusion software platform producing real-time position, speed, direction of motion, and heading information.
· optional integrated GPS/GNSS signal and navigation processing — using Loctronix’ SCP hybrid technology.
· fully integrated map-matching functionality with support for third-party map data.
· optional WiFi received signal strength indication (RSSI) location and access point profiling
· third-party LBS application programming interface (API) support
· multiple implementation options supporting existing smartphones and next-generation wireless devices.
For the MWC demonstration, the MEP sensor fusion engine was installed on a consumer mobile device incorporating micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) inertial technology from InvenSense and map data/application software from Point Inside.
