South Korea’s military stated that GPS signals used for navigation in the region were manipulated by North Korea over the past several days.
North Korean GPS manipulation activities were detected from near the city of Kaesong and the city of Haeju. The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said the activities disrupted dozens of civilian aircraft and several vessels.
“We urge North Korea to stop GPS interference provocations immediately and strongly warn that it will be held fully accountable for any resulting consequences,” the South’s joint chiefs said in a statement. The South Korean military has not specified how North Korea was manipulating GPS signals or fully detailed the extent of disruptions.
