The Future of Farming: Unmanned Systems in Agriculture – Innovations in Land and Air

This webinar has taken place. A recorded version is available now to those who register.

Farming is a complex business which involves managing variables such as weather, soil and crop inputs to ultimately maximize yield and minimize waste and cost. The webinar will explore how our planet’s future food needs will be met with the aid of agricultural robots, driverless tractors and UAS.

Farming is a complex business which involves managing variables such as weather, soil and crop inputs to ultimately maximize yield and minimize waste and cost. The webinar will explore how our planet’s future food needs will be met with the aid of agricultural robots, driverless tractors and UAS.

The agricultural robotics market is expected to grow from $3 billion in 2017 to $16 billion by the end of 2020 and to $74 billion by 2024 – agricultural applications of UAS are expected to generate the greatest economic impact once UAS are integrated into the national airspace. Join Inside GNSS in this webinar (which was recorded live on Tuesday, March 7), when our panel of experts will address the state of the art and science in unmanned agriculture solutions in the free web seminar sponsored by NovAtel, Inc.

Moderating the event will be James Poss, Maj Gen (Ret), the CEO of ISR Ideas, an intelligence, unmanned aerial systems and cyber warfare consulting firm. He is the founder and former Executive Director of the Alliance for System Safety of UAS through Research Excellence (ASSURE), the FAA’s center of excellence for unmanned research. He is a 30-year U.S. Air Force veteran and a leading expert on UAS having helped design the U.S. Air Force’s remote split operations system for UAS control and the Distributed Common Ground Station for UAS intelligence analysis. Gen. Poss also has extensive experience in cyber operations from his assignments with the National Security Agency and as the Air Force lead for stand up of U.S. Cyber Command. He is the 2012 winner of Aviation Weeks’ Curtis Sword Award for his leadership in Anglo-American aerospace relations.

The panel of experts for this exciting event also includes Demoz Gebre-Egziabher, faculty member of aerospace engineering & mechanics department at University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, USA; Mel Torrie, founder and CEO, Autonomous Solutions, Inc.; Benjamin Schilling, Director of Sales at NovAtel, Inc.

PANELISTS
demoz-gebre-egziabherDemoz Gebre-Egziabher is on the faculty of aerospace engineering & mechanics department at University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, USA where teaches and conducts PNT-related research. His research deals with the use of GNSS in transportation applications and the design of multi-sensor navigation and attitude determination systems for aerospace vehicles. He hold a Ph.D in aeronautics & astronautics from Stanford University.

mel-torrie

Mel Torrie has a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Utah State University and is founder and CEO of Autonomous Solutions, Inc. (ASI) in Logan, Utah. ASI develops and sells systems for driverless ground vehicle control in mining, military, agriculture, material handling, automotive proving grounds, industrial cleaning, and security. Prior to founding ASI 16 years ago, he worked at Utah State University where he managed a NASA Space Shuttle payload. Mel is a sought after speaker in the robotics community and has delivered addresses at conference events such as the Precision Farming Expo, RoboBusiness, The Canadian Institute of Mining, Optimizing Mining Operations, and Rise Hong Kong.

benjamin-schilling

Benjamin Schilling is director of sales at NovAtel, Inc. He’s an international sales, business development and management professional with demonstrated capabilities in strategic planning, leading people, channel development and driving sales of precision technologies in North America, South America, Europe and Australia. His focus in agriculture stems from roots on a large fruit and vegetable farm in Southwest Michigan, USA. Schilling has since coupled that with an interest in innovative technologies and a passion to expand the adoption of precision technology and improved practices into the agricultural industry globally.
