The Asia Oceania Region Workshop on GNSS is a new event organized by Japan's space agency and Satellite Positioning Research and Applications Center and GISTDA, Thailand's space agency.

It will take place at the Sofitel Centara Grand Bangkok hotel on Monday and Tuesday, January 25-26, 2010.

The organizers expect the number of usable modernized navigation satellites to increase much faster in this region than in other areas in the world and PNT capability to improve accordingly. This meeting will address efforts to try, test, and validate new receiver hardware, algorithm and applications for increased user requirements.

Sessions will cover modernization of the four main GNSSes and India's IRNSS and Japan's QZSS as well as a number of applications topics.

Matthew B. Higgins, vice president of FIG, will deliver the keynote on Monday morning, "How multi GNSS applications contribute to sustainable regional economy growth."

The workshop is part of an inititative, Multi-GNSS Asia (MGA), whose cochairs are Akio Yasuka, Japan and Chris Rizos, Australia. Both also serve on the Inside GNSS advisory council.
