John W. Betz is a Fellow of The MITRE Corporation.
Betz has contributed to the design of modernized GPS signals, including
developing the binary offset carrier (BOC) modulation. He has also
influenced many aspects of satellite navigation engineering and has
participated in international efforts to achieve compatibility and
interoperability between GPS and other satellite navigation systems.
Betz is a Fellow of the Institute of Navigation (ION), a Fellow of the
IEEE, has received the ION’s Burka and Thurlow Awards, and received
paper awards from the IEEE Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing
Society (now the Signal Processing Society) and the IEEE Aerospace and
Electronic System Society for papers in their transactions.
served on and chaired the U.S. Air Force Scientific Advisory Board and
currently serves as vice chair of ION’s Satellite Division.
Betz received his Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
Betz is a member of the Inside GNSS Editorial Advisory Council.
