Spirent Announces New GNSS/GPS Testing Software

Spirent Communications plc has announced the availability of PT TestBench — software designed to help technology, system and application developers build more accurate positioning functions more quickly. According to the company, the testing, analysis and reporting package automates testing of GPS and other global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers, so higher quality systems are brought to market faster and more reliably.

Horten, Norway–based Sensonor AS is in serial deliveries supporting the STIM210, which is designed to provide high accuracy inertial data for the AXD-LNS Land Navigator Solution. The Land Navigator went into regular production in late 2016, following five years of development.

Autoliv Shows Automotive Positioning and ADAS at 2017 CES

Autoliv, Inc., a manufacturer of automotive safety systems with headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden, released its sixth-generation, aftermarket location and positioning module at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Chicago-Area Magazine Editor Joins Inside GNSS

Stan Goff, a seasoned writer and editor for a variety of professional magazines, has joined Inside GNSS as managing editor. He will be responsible for day-to-day operations and production of the print publication and insidegnss.com.

He will work with founding editor Glen Gibbons.

Goff lives and works in the Chicago area, where he spent 17 years as a senior editor and executive editor for Advanstar Communications business to business magazines. Earlier, he was a sports editor for Sun Publications.

Vidal Ashkenazi Awarded OBE for GNSS Role in Services to Science

Nottingham Scientific Ltd (NSL) has announced that the company’s founder and CEO, Professor Vidal Ashkenazi, has been named an officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE ) in the 2017 New Year's Honors List for “Services to Science.”

The OBE was created by King George V in 1917 and is awarded by the ruling monarch of the United Kingdom, currently Queen Elizabeth II. The honor recognizes distinguished service to the arts and sciences, public services outside the civil service, and work with charitable and welfare organizations.

Hemisphere GNSS Names Halsey New President and CEO

Hemisphere GNSS has named industry veteran Farlin Halsey as its president and chief executive officer, effective January 2, 2017. Halsey replaces interim president and CEO Xinping Guo, who has served in that position for eight months.

In addition, Halsey has been appointed to the company's board of directors. Guo, chairman and general manager of Beijing UniStrong Science & Technology, which owns 100 percent of Hemisphere GNSS, will continue to serve on the company's board of directors.

u-blox GNSS Module Featured in Tracking Device

Thalwil, Switzerland-based u-blox has announced that two of its products have been used by Cobilsys to create a small, battery-powered asset tracking device.

Cobilsys' ATPACK tracker measures 53 by 48 by 15 millimeters and can be used to track the location of cars, motorcycles, and pets, the company said. The product uses a u-blox EVA-M8M, the industry's smallest GNSS module, which works with GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, and BeiDou, the company said.

A new reports says that the GNSS market landscape is growing because of rapid growth of satellite technology-enabled wearables, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), new innovation opportunities, and low-cost precision receivers.

ABI Research's new GNSS integrated circuit (IC) vendor competitive analysis says that Broadcom and Qualcomm remain the two top companies for the fourth straight year.

Air Force Approves Lockheed Martin's GPS Ground Control Design

The U.S. Air Force has approved Lockheed Martin's current GPS satellite ground control system upgrade to enable it to operate with more powerful and accurate GPS III satellites, the company said.

The Air Force's Critical Design Review (CDR) for the Contingency Operations (COps) contract, completed on November 17, allows Lockheed Martin to proceed with the modification of the existing Architecture Evolution Plan (AEP) Operational Control Segment. The AEP, maintained by Lockheed Martin, controls the 31 GPS IIR, IIR-M and IIF satellites in orbit.
