It will be a busy few weeks for GNSS satellite launches in January and February.
Up next is the Wednesday (January 20, 2016) is a launch of the fifth spacecraft for the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS). The Indian Space Research Organization plans to complete the IRNSS constellation with two additional launches in February and March.

Russia will host the eleventh meeting of the International Committee on GNSS (ICG) from November 6 to 11, 2016 in Sochi, on the Black Sea near Georgia. This meeting is organized by Roscosmos, the State Space Corporation. It will take place at the Pullman Sochi Center Hotel and Conference Center.
The ICG is a voluntary United Nations–backed association that brings together GNSS and augmentation providers, including the United States, Russia, European Union, China, India, and Japan.

Preparing for a May 2016 event at the Hunan International Conference and Exhibition Center, Changsha.The 7th China Satellite Navigation Conference and exhibition will take place at the Hunan International Conference & Exhibition Center in Changsha (長沙), the 3,000 year old capital city of Hunan Province on May 18, 19 and 20, 2016.
Several thousand scientists, GNSS businesses and researchers from all over the world are expected to attend this high-level annual event. The conference language will be Mandarin, with simultaneous English translation.

The sixth international conference on localization and GNSS will take place at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) – Casa Convalescència, a UNESCO site, on June 28, 29 and 30 in Barcelona, Spain.
ICL-GNSS covers recent research on terrestrial and satellite-based positioning techniques to provide reliable, accurate and low latency position information with the goal of inspiring new design, implementation, test and evaluation methodologies for positioning platforms.

The 10th Baška GNSS Conference will take place May 8–10, 2016, in Baška, Krk Island, Croatia, organized jointly by The Royal Institute of Navigation (London, UK), Faculty of Maritime Studies (University of Rijeka, Croatia), and the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences (University of Zagreb, Croatia), with technical co-sponsorship from Beihang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (Beijing, China)

Concept design for the world’s largest airport passenger terminal – the Beijing New Airport Terminal Building. Zaha Hadid Architects drawingTrimble announced today (December 8, 2015) that it has received a contract extension to use the company’s technology from Trimble to integrate construction and operations for the high-profile Beijing New Airport Project, expected to be the world’s largest when completed at an estimated cost of $13.1 billion.
In April, Trimble won the initial bid to supply the project with a construction information management system. Based on the success of the solution to date, the contract has been extended to include additional machine control systems for soil stabilization.

The World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, agreed Wednesday (November 11, 2015) to allocate RF spectrum for global flight tracking in civil aviation.
OriginGPS announced the launch of a new family of products yesterday (October 27, 2015), the first of which is the Multi Micro Hornet ORG1510-MK, an integrated multi-GNSS (GPS, GLONASS, and BeiDou) module based on the MediaTek MT3333 chip.
According to the Israel-based company, the 10x10x6.1 millimeter low-power architecture supports an update rate of up to 10 hertz and contains onboard flash, supporting devices that require full-featured components with small footprints, such as UAVs designed to follow action sports and other fast-moving activities or wearables.

According to the China state news agency Xinhua, the spacecraft was launched from Xichang Satellite Launch Center in the southwestern province of Sichuan on a Long March-3B carrier rocket. It was the 20th satellite for the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) and for the first time featured a hydrogen atomic clock.

The average person with a smart phone has their location revealed every three minutes, according to a recent study, information that can be determined even if GNSS capabilities are turned off, experts said.
Research published last year by Carnegie Mellon, showed that, overall, “somebody or something was trying to get your location” every three minutes, said Logan Scott, an expert in GPS, cellular and wireless technologies. “Over a space of two weeks the average is about 6,200 position reports coming out of that (phone).”
